Golf, Fishing and Horse Riding
Here are some suggestions for outdoor activities that are available near to our holiday cottages in Northumberland. Cheviot Holiday Cottages is ideally located as a base for a great number of outdoor activities and sports including trout and coarse fishing, sea fishing, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding in North Northumberland. There are also several golf courses nearby with a selection large enough to make Cheviot and ideal location for a
golfing holiday in Northumberland.
Fishing
Abundant lake and sea fishing is available. Lake fishing can be found at Sweethope Lough, which has good access to the banks, located between Rothbury and Hexham (01830 540349) and at Fontburn reservoir, the closest, being near Rothbury (contact Northumbrian Water 0870 2403549) Conundrum Farm and fishery is positioned just south of Berwick (01289 308000)
For sea angling just call at the harbour of Berwick, Seahouses, Craster or Amble.
Cycling and cycle hire
Quiet country lanes and cycle trails leading from your doorstep, together with open grassland by the river Breamish provide an ideal chance for youngsters learning to ride safely and are equally ideal for a leisurely family outing.
For the budding or more serious mountain biker, Breamish Valley is a paradise!
Route 68 of the National Cycle network passes within 300m of Ingram.
Many of our regular returning guests now bring their own bicycles, though if you prefer or wish to save space during your arrival journey cycles can be hired locally.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

If you shoot regularly or have never held a shotgun in your life you will enjoy breaking clay pigeons in a private, safe and beautiful woodland environment. You will be looked after by a competent clay pigeon shooter on a one-to-one basis, or in the case of larger parties up to ten clients, by skilled shotgun marksmen. For those who enjoy the sport or want to try something different this can be a really good day or half day, and the rates are quite reasonable.
Horse riding
Trail rides can be arranged for the experienced rider to start direct from your doorstep in Ingram Valley and also other historic scenic routes in North Northumberland. Beach or picnic rides are also an option. If you contact Shipley Lane they will be glad to discuss your requirements. Alternatively, their equestrian centre is only 15 minutes drive from Ingram and has great facilities whether you are a child or adult, complete beginner or experienced rider.

Alnmouth Golf Course at Foxton
