Frequently Asked Questions

Please feel free to contact Trysha or Graham at any time should you have queries or questions. The following FAQs may also help.

Q Do the cottages have Broadband?
A Yes - Free Wireless Broadband connectivity will now be available in all properties for 2010.

Q What's at Ingram?
A Ingram is a small peaceful hamlet in a beautiful river valley setting. It is made up of the Rectory, our cottages, St Michael's Church, Ingram farm and a small though very informative visitor centre for the Northumberland National Park (which is open Easter through to end of October)

Q Do you supply freezer meals on site at Cheviot Holiday Cottages?
A Yes, we do, please look at Food Service under Information on our website.

Q Where are the nearest shops?
A There is a general grocery shop at Hedgeley Garage (long opening hours seven days a week)within a few minutes drive of Ingram.

Q Is there a supermarket near?
A Morrison's, and now also a brand new Sainsbury's supermarket are twenty minutes drive away at Alnwick, and you will usually pass through or close to the town on days out during your stay. Alternatively if arriving from the south you pass both Tescos Extra and Marks and Spencers Simply Food off the A1 at Kingston Park, Newcastle (details under local amenities)

Q Can I get a supermarket home delivery?
A Yes, contact Asda online who will arrange for a home delivery during your stay. If you book a slot between 12-4pm we will pack your delivery away ready for arrival. When placing your order use this address: Your cottage name, followed by Cheviot Holiday Cottages, Ingram, Alnwick, NE66 4LT.

Alternatively, click on Food Service, listed to the left - We now supply Homemade Freezer meals on site at Cheviot Holiday Cottages and these can be ordered ready for your arrival or purchased at any time during your stay. In addition, Food Local Food is a unique service supplying the very best local produce the North East has to offer - delivered direct and packed away in your cottage ready for your arrival.

Q Can I buy a newspaper?
A Yes, Hedgeley Garage sells newspapers and magazines every day including Sunday.

Q Where is the nearest pub?
A The Plough Inn at Powburn is 3.5 miles or a few minutes drive.

Q Is there a good restaurant nearby?
A There are many restaurants, country inns, cafes and bistro's in the surrounding villages and in Alnwick itself. The Tankerville Arms at Eglingham is a scenic seven minutes drive from Ingram and is a characterful coaching inn offering good interesting Northumbrian food. You can eat in the bar or the restaurant and children are welcome.

Q Where are the cottages in relation to one another?
A Look at the cottages 'site plan' which you can find under 'Our Cottages' and also on the 'Information' page.

Q Can I park outside the cottage?
A Yes, there is ample parking beside each of the properties.

Q Can I walk directly out from the cottages?
A Quiet country lanes, open access land by the river Breamish (also a Site of Special Scientific Interest) and an excellent choice of Public Footpaths, Bridleways and Permissive Footpaths lead directly from the cottages. In your cottage you will find a file containing fourteen printed illustrated walks most starting from Cheviot Holiday Cottages. There are also a collection of walking guides describing walks in the area and along the Heritage Coastline.

Q Does the Dovecote have a shower?
A The Dovecote has a hand held mixer tap overbath shower. This is because a full height shower would have spoilt the layout and appearance of the bathroom.

Q How far is it to Alnwick and the beaches?
A Alnwick Town lies twenty minutes drive to the east. All of North Northumberland's beautiful beaches are within thirty to forty minutes drive from Ingram and part of the excitement is to explore the numerous quiet country lanes and villages on the way there and back!

Q Do I have to take out cancellation insurance?
A Although we do not make it compulsory, as a good many guests already have their own, we do strongly reccommend it to cover you in the event of having to cancel. For those who do not, we do send out with your booking conditions a suitable cancellation insurance which you can apply for direct with the insurer.

Q How do I make a booking?
A Contact us by telephone or email to confirm availability of your chosen week/cottage. We will then email or post booking forms and details to you.

Q Do you accept dogs?
A We listen to our guests' comments very carefully and as a result our properties are completely dog free, apart from three, where we welcome well behaved dogs, only following prior discussion and agreement at the time of booking. The properties we accept well behaved dogs include West Cottage, Bluebell Byre and Barley Mill.

Q Are the cottages suitable for children?
A All the cottages (except for the Dovecote)are equipped with high chairs, Mothercare travel cots, top and bottom stairgates where applicable, spark guards and fixable wire cage child proof fireguards. The Coach House is suitable only for a young baby.

Q Do you allow smoking in the properties?
A As a courtesy to all guests, smoking is not permitted within the properties.

Q Are the cottages attached or detached?
A There are four detached buildings in a mature tree lined half acre paddock overlooking the Cheviot foothills. The Dovecote is linked to the Stables by a short length of sound proofed stairwell wall.

Across open one acre lawns is The Old Rectory and its wings containing Hillside View and West Cottage. The Coach House adjoins an external wall of the rectory building.

All properties have been designed so as to maximise privacy and, wherever possible, windows of one do not overlook those of another.
