Cheviot Cottages, Northumbria - Silver Medal. The Set Up
Cheviots is a charming hamlet of six pretty properties including detached farm cottages and the Barley Mill - and an 18th century Rectory.
The Location
Set in secluded three-acre grounds in Ingram on the edge of the National Park, Cheviots has a tremendous feeling of space. You can wander down to the winding River Breamish, or up to the open moorlands.
A Home From Home
The five-star cottages combine the best of modern living with beamed ceilings, window seats, oak floors and fireplaces.
Barley Mill, which sleeps six, has a spectacular main bedroom with a log fire and carved king size four-poster bed. Honeysuckle Cottage boasts a Victorian bathroom with log fire.
The kitchens are a delight, with Italian tiled floors, granite worktops and even an oil-fired Aga. Some cottages have a private lawned garden and all share a great kids' woodland adventure playground.
Home Help
Owners Trysha and Graham Stephenson's personal service sets this holiday let apart. They are on hand (unobtrusively) for your every need.
Stuff To Do
The area is awash with history, including Alnwick Castle with its magnificant garden and newly completed giant treehouse, and the nearby castles at Bamburgh, Chillingham and Dunstanburgh.
Nature lovers can explore Kielder Water, the Farne Islands and Holy Island. Families can also relax on sweeping beaches.
The Verdict
A real rural retreat for those wanting to escape city living.
